INTRODUCING SOLID FOODS TO YOUR CHILD

  1. When should I introduce solid foods to my baby?
You can introduce solids any time between 4-6 months if your baby is ready. Normally your child's digestive system is ready for solids when the child nears his or her half birthday.
     2. how will i know when my baby is ready?
Your baby will give you clear signs when ready to move beyond liquids only.

THINGS TO OBSERVE

  • Head Control-your baby needs to be able to keep his head steady, upright position.
  • Sitting well when supported your child needs to be able to sit upright to swallow well.
  • Moving food in the mouth-to start solids your child should be able to move food to the back of his or her mouth and swallow.
  • Significant weight gain-most babies are ready to eat solids when they have doubled their birth weight and are at least 4 months old.
  • Growing appetite-your child will seem hungry even with eight-ten breast feedings.
  • Curiosity about what you are eating-at around 6 months old your baby may begin eyeing your bowl or trying to grab food as it travels from your plate to your mouth.
